Happy New Year 2010. We look forward to welcoming you into our program of learning this year. If you have not yet tried an adult education course, please make this the year you do. We hope you will find a course that appeals to you. As always, we would like your learning experience to be both enjoyable and successful. We welcome your views, written or verbal, that help us to improve our service.
Literacy Initiative
During spring 2010 RSU 38 Maranacook Adult Education is undertaking two new initiatives. “Creating a Literate Nation by Leveraging the Power of the Family” is our first initiative.
Federal Family Literacy (Title 1) funds will be used to improve the educational opportunities of families by integrating early childhood education, adult education and parenting activities into projects that build on existing community resources. Services are designed to enhance literacy skills – the ability to read, write and speak English and to compute and solve problems at levels of proficiency necessary to function as parents/family members, workers and members of the community.
Work Ready Initiative
In these times of high unemployment our second initiative WorkReady™ will assist in addressing the skills needed to secure employment. The WorkReady™ curriculum addresses seven basic standards including personal motivations and challenges to employment, effective communication and interpersonal skills, understanding taxes and benefits, job searching, and resume and portfolio preparation. The 60 hour soft skills and 20 computer based training is designed to provide successful participants with not only skills essential in today’s workplace, but also a portable credential. The WorkReady™ Credential is endorsed by businesses throughout the state.
If you are interested in helping to support either of these initiatives through providing educational materials, unused office materials, volunteer tutors, assisting with mock interviews, or monetary donations to help sustain our programs, please contact Deb Bomaster at 685-4923 x1009.
Wishing you the best of the New Year.
Deb Bomaster, director, RSU 38 Maranacook Adult Education
