Maranacook Adult Ed receives grant for Social Media Outreach

Grant supports social media outreach to increase college attendance, success

The Maranacook and Gardiner adult education programs are launching a social media outreach program to engage former GED/Adult Ed diploma students and other adults who need help entering, re-entering or succeeding in postsecondary education.

For the second time in three years, the programs jointly have been awarded a Maine College Access Challenge Grant grant to help adult students overcome hurdles to starting and finishing college degree and certificate programs. The grant for $29,825 is part of a federal program designed to significantly increase the number of students who enter and remain in postsecondary education. The Finance Authority of Maine (FAME) administers the grant program in Maine.

The Gardiner and Maranacook adult education centers are collaborating through their Design for Success program to increase the number of students completing the College Transitions and Aspirations programs and, because financial support is critical to helping students stay in college, the numbers applying annually for financial aid by completing the FAFSA, a federal financial aid application that serves as the gateway to state and federal grants and loans for college. The Gardiner and Maranacook adult education programs use grant funds to employ counselors skilled in helping students navigate the obstacles to attaining their higher education goals.

Former students and other adults who would like to access these services or learn more may connect with the programs on Facebook (facebook.com/GardinerAdultEducation or facebook.com/maranacookadulted).

For direct contact with the Gardiner or Maranacook adult education directors, you may also call or email. In Gardiner, call Diann Bailey (207.582.3774) or email (dbailey@sad11.k12.me.us). At Maranacook, call Deb Bomaster (207.685-4923 x 1009) or email (deb_bomaster@maranacook.org).
