Maine Adult Education Day

The Maine Adult Education Association held its annual Maine Adult Education Day at the Hall of Flags in the Statehouse on February 10. For the eighth year, Governor John E. Baldacci took part in the event, talking with adult learners, many of whom are dislocated workers, and speaking to the group regarding the importance of adult education in the development of Maine¹s workforce. Six adult learners, all involved in retraining or preparation for higher education, offered compelling remarks about their circumstances and the difference Maine Adult Education made for them.

Maranacook RSU 38 Adult Education participated in the morning event, participating in a series of theme displays on High School Completion, English as a Second Language, Family Literacy, Workforce and Skill Training, WorkReady Technology, and College Transitions, all critical elements of the Maine Adult Education system.

Individual programs met with their legislators and student groups attended public hearings and toured the House and Senate Chambers. On February 10, both the House and Senate passed a joint resolution, sponsored by Rep. Peggy Rotundo and Senator Richard Rosen, and cosponsored by all members, acknowledging the vital role of adult education in Maine.

Maranacook Adult Ed helping adults transition to college

Commercial Drivers License

We are now offering CDL Class B (dump truck) training. An informational session will be held Monday, November 9, 2009, at 6 p.m. at Maranacook High School to answer all your questions about the training, cost, permit exam, license exam, available license endorsements, careers for commercial drivers and more. Successful SAT Strategies

Just in time for the October 10 and November 7, 2009, SAT exam dates, we are offering affordable English and math prep classes. These preparatory courses for the SAT have proven helpful to high school students who hope to improve their scores on the verbal and math sections of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). The course includes test-taking tactics, drill work, vocabulary lists, algebraic and geometric concepts and a familiarity with the test that will allow students to feel more prepared. Students in the English class will also write two writing prompts, which the instructor will correct, and comment on. Adult Education has bulk purchased the textbooks -Cost $17 due at registration.

Maranacook Adult Ed graduates 39 students

The Maranacook Adult & Community Education program graduated 39 students with Adult Education and GED diplomas this month. Twelve of those graduates participated in graduation ceremonies at Maranacook Community High School on Sunday, June 14, 2009. Congratulations, graduates!
