Map & Compass Level 1

Hike, snowshoe, geocache, hunt, and enjoy the woods and fields of Maine with confidence that you can read a topographic map, plot a course bearing, understand the symbols, which way the river flows, and how to get to safety. Introduction to using a compass and map outdoors included.

Students will be required to "buy" their online course textbook at www.mainee-learning.com by using a unique coupon. Inside the course will be the Zoom invitation.


Each student will need a baseplate 2 degree compass for class.

Coastal Navigation Level 1

Coastal Navigation Level 1 

Learn the basics of coastal navigation using local charts, parallel ruler, and dividers. Learn what the symbols mean, how to determine safe and dangerous routes, plan for emergencies and more. For kayakers, sailors, and powerboaters.

Students will be given a coupon to "buy" their online course-textbook at 
www.mainee-learning.com (all course materials will be there).

Students will need to own/purchase/borrow either a Casco Bay chart or a 
Penobscot Bay chart, parallel ruler, and a pair of dividers.

Registered Maine Guide Training

Train to become a working Registered Maine Guide, not just a test taker. Learn the skills that guides use daily including: map & compass, coastal navigation, shelter building, separated client searches, cooking, canoeing, snowshoeing, SUP’ng, plus specialty skills for sea kayaking, fishing, and hunting.

This hybrid program includes Zoom, all day workshops, and homework assignments. Students need access to a computer/tablet with audio and video capabilities, a printer, and a 2 degree base plate compass at the minimum. Depending on what specialty the student wants to become as a Registered Maine Guide, they may need more. A complete list will be provided directly to the students.
