The Maranacook Adult Education program maintains a small cohort of active HiSET students who are committed to achieving their high school equivalency diploma. Our HiSET math and reading/writing tutoring classes typically have enrollments of 2-3 students, making our HiSET classes perfect for those students requiring a more individualized learning approach.

Tutoring Schedule: Our HiSET tutoring sessions for math run Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-8:00 pm. Our HiSET tutoring sessions for reading and writing run on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:30-8:00. The amount of tutoring a student requires will depend on their performance on the entry level HiSET pre-tests.

HiSET Academy Online: We additionally offer our students access to HiSET Academy via a partnership with essential education. This online, self paced, learning system provides students with additional tutoring support outside of the normal face to face tutoring sessions. HiSET Academy is a great options for students who want to speed up their HiSET journey.

Requirements for taking the HiSET

– To take the HiSET exam, you must be at least 17 years of age. Students younger than 17 may enroll in the HiSET program and receive tutoring support and test preparation training, however, they are not eligible to participate in the HiSET test until they’re 17 years of age..
– You do not have to be a resident of Maine to take the HiSET exam. However, Maine residents must provide proof of Maine residency in order to take the HiSET exam for free. Acceptable evidence includes: valid State of Maine ID, driver’s license, passport or military ID.

Intake and Assessment – No cost for Maine residents
1. Complete Intake paperwork.
2. Complete eCASAS assessments in Math and Reading.
3. Complete all 5 HiSET pre-tests (math, science, social studies, reading & writing) at the “prepared” level or higher.
4. Complete all necessary tutoring and HiSET test preparation requirements as needed.
5. Complete all 5 HiSET computer based tests (math, science, social studies, reading & writing).
6. Receive HiSET diploma.
